This year, we launched a pilot reading programme for one of our beneficiaries; Lefika la Phodiso. The programme centres around incentivising existing “Volunteens” that are currently helping younger children with their reading. The programme aims to create and build listening and reading skills within the aftercare group as well as provide the older “Volunteens” with a small financial incentive in the form of vouchers that will help them manage their lives more effectively.

Once we have assessed the effectiveness of the programme, we intend to roll it out at other centres in the Johannesburg Inner City.

Earlier this year we managed to get our kitchen project at Lefika la Phodiso off the ground! Thanks to numerous donations from many individuals donors and an almost complete kitchen and amazing installers at Symbol Projects CC (@SymbolProjectsCC)
